HISTORY
After the creation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and considering the large geographical coverage of two zones—East Coast Railway and South Central Railway—a need was felt to establish a new railway zone. This new zone was proposed to be carved out of the existing zones, with its Headquarters at Visakhapatnam. The decision also aligned with prevailing public sentiment.
In accordance with the provisions of the 13th Schedule and Section 93 of The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, and following Cabinet approval, the Hon’ble Minister of Railways announced the creation of a new zone—South Coast Railway (SCoR)—on 27 February 2019, with its headquarters in Visakhapatnam.
